Sleep and circadian science

Understand sleep science—and put it to use.

Michael Grandner, PhD, is a sleep and circadian scientist, clinician, and educator. This site brings together his research, clinical perspective, teaching, and public communication to help people understand sleep in context and use the science thoughtfully.

A different way to think about sleep

Sleep is multidimensional, contextual, and connected to the rest of life.

Sleep is shaped by biology, behavior, timing, environment, social conditions, health, and life circumstances. Understanding it means looking beyond a single number, an isolated behavior, or a generic recommendation.

Michael’s work connects these dimensions without losing their complexity—so scientific evidence can become more useful in research, clinical care, education, and everyday decisions.
